30 Day Minimalism Challenge
How to Give Yourself a Fresh Start
As someone who loves to declutter and organize my home on a regular basis, this minimalism challenge caught my eye. I thought it’d be fun to share it with you guys to see if anyone else would like to join in on the challenge. Let’s see how this goes….
Day 1 – Stay offline for one day
Being that I’m a blogger and am usually online every day working on future blog posts, this one may be a little tough but I’m still gonna give it a go!
Day 2 – Meditate for 15 minutes
This one I’m actually looking forward to cause I’ve been trying to start meditating again but just always seem to forget to do it. I have to admit, it’s hard for me to sit still for that long and clear my head of all the things on my to-do list, but I’m sure it’ll be refreshing to just let it all go, even if just for 15 minutes.
Day 3 – Declutter your digital life
I’m actually pretty good about staying on top of this, so this one shouldn’t be too hard. My computer stays pretty clutter-free but my Evernote could use some decluttering.
Day 4 – No complaint day
You always think you’re not much of a complainer until you try to go without a single complaint all day long. I’ve tried this one before and I can always use the reminder, so I know I’ll enjoy this one.
Day 5 – Identify your 3-6 main priorities
I actually did this at the beginning of the year and what I wrote down were:
- My morning Bible study time
- Making time for my husband every day
- Spending quality time with my kids each day
- Creating a peaceful home environment
- Publishing one new blog post every week
- Taking at least one photo each day to add to my 2017 album
Day 6 – Follow a morning ritual
I don’t know what I would do without one of these. Mine has been in place for a while now and I’m honestly so glad I started doing this!
Day 7 – Streamline your reading list
I currently have 38 books on my reading list…is that streamlined enough?
Day 8 – Learn to enjoy solitude
I’m a mom of 4 with one more on the way. I would love to be able to enjoy some solitude!
Day 9 – Downsize your beauty collection
As a self-proclaimed beauty junkie, these are fighting words right here!
Day 10 – No email or social media until lunch
I could actually really see myself enjoying this one.
Day 11 – Evaluate your commitments
I think this one ties in nicely with Day 5. Once you know what’s most important to you, you’ll have an easier time saying no to the things that don’t really matter right now.
Day 12 – Define your goals for this year
I love doing this! It is such a good feeling to be able to check off goals as you accomplish them throughout the year 🙂
Day 13 – Clean out your closet
No matter how many times you’ve done this before, it always seems to need to be done again doesn’t it?
Day 14 – Take a step towards learning a new skill
I just bought my first cross-stitching kit and I have found it so relaxing to do this at the end of the day.
Day 15 – Examine your daily habits
I pretty much have my entire day planned out from start to finish. One thing I did eliminate a lot of was how much time I spent on Facebook!
Day 16 – Don’t buy anything for 24 hours
This one actually won’t be that hard to do. I’m not one to really buy stuff every day anyway.
Day 17 – Practice single-tasking
I started doing this a few months ago and it has completely changed my life! I didn’t realize how much time I was wasting multi-tasking until I started focusing on just one thing at a time. This one is definitely my favorite tip for sure.
Day 18 – Unfollow and unfriend
So not looking forward to this one. There are so many people on my Facebook that I don’t even really know how they got there in the first place. This one is gonna take me all day….
Day 19 – Go for a walk and practice mindfulness
I’m really looking forward to this one. I love to get outdoors as much as possible.
Day 20 – No TV all day, read instead
Yup. I can definitely do this one! I would much rather spend my days reading a good book than sitting in front of the TV any day.
Day 21 – Journal for 20 minutes
I really have wanted to start doing this for a while and I just keep putting it off. Looking forward to seeing how this one goes.
Day 22 – Create a relaxing bedtime routine
I’ve actually been working on transforming my bathroom into more of a spa-like experience. Soaking in a tub surrounded by candles and having relaxing music playing, is my kind of way to end the day.
Day 23 – Go bare faced
I do this more often than I care to admit lol.
Day 24 – Practice gratitude
One of my goals for 2017 was to take a few minutes each morning to write down a few things I’m grateful for. I’ve actually really been enjoying this experience.
Day 25 – Leave a whole day unplanned
As someone who plans every day’s to-do list the night before, the thought of leaving things unplanned makes me sweat a little lol. What can I say? I love to plan!
Day 26 – Identify your stress triggers
Easy. It’s Day 25’s task.
Day 27 – Clear out your junk drawer
Another one I think is a good idea to revisit often.
Day 28 – Let go of a goal
Not as hard as you may think. There are a few things I’ve found myself removing from my list the more I think about what it is I really want.
Day 29 – Turn off notifications
Honestly, it’s all Instagram!
Day 30 – Evaluate your last 5 purchases
This one should be interesting….
